Get to know our therapists, sing happy birthday and pick up a mindfulness tip
21st April 2017
This week we will speak to Linda our lovely counsellor & CBT therapist, say happy birthday to two of our fantastic volunteers, and get some Mindfulness tips off Lorraine
Lets meet Linda
Louise: Hello Linda! I thought it would be nice to have a chat so that people can get to know you. What drew you to counselling?
Linda: Psychology basically. I did a degree and I was interested in the different aspects of psychology. I decided I wanted to work with individuals, to help them and to make a difference.
Louise: That's great, how long have you been a practitioner for?
Linda: I have been in private practice for 10 years and counselling for over 12 years.
Louise: That's a long time. What is your favourite thing about your job?
Linda: Seeing clients make progress. That is the big reward - seeing it make a difference in their lives.
Louise: What kind of things can people come to you for help about?
Linda: A Broad range of problem areas ranging from anxiety, depression, low-self esteem, stress, relationship issues, loss, bereavement, OCD, phobias and eating disorders.
Louise: You mentioned relationship issues - do you see couples or just one to one?
Linda: I do see couples, it is up to them whether they both want to take part, but I can do it with just one person and they can transcend the information to their partner so I can help even if both partners don't want to attend.
Louise: What are your favourite things/ favourite thing to do?
Linda: Being on a Cornish beach! I love the coastline, photography, the natural environment, the woods and wildlife and spending time with my family & my cat.
Louise: That is lovely. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Linda: I just want to say that I love my job, if just one technique works I jump up and down with joy, I have such a belief in CBT - it works. Clients sometimes think they must be going through a crisis to have counselling. It shouldn't be that way - it can be used as a way to explore oneself, understand oneself and self-reflect. It should be seen as an everyday thing to do and it benefits everyone.
Louise: Thank you Linda!

This weeks Mindfulness tip!
Shower Mindfully
Next time you have your shower, do it mindfully. Feel the water washing over you - your mind wanders - then gently return to feeling the water on your body. Maybe you will notice the smell of the soap or the shampoo as you wash your body. feeling the textures of your flannel, or sponge on your body - mind keeps wandering - it doesn't matter - just keep coming back to showering. Stand for a moment under the shower feeling all the sensations of the warm water on your skin. Your mind will wander hundreds of time - it doesn't matter - just keep coming back to showering.
